Professional Profile

David Allen is an established mechanical engineer with thirteen years’ experience in mechanical, electro-mechanical, and electronics design and manufacturing.  This includes metal forming and finishing, machine design, best-practices, machine-shop techniques, and high- and low-volume manufacturing.

From this experience, Mr. Allen has mastered such skills as modeling and rendering, dimensioned prints, failure analysis, and product safety.  His unique background has provided him the opportunity to formulate ballistics equations and point-of-impact / point-of-aim tools to calculate the various properties of a point-mass and/or full-spectrum body in motion.  

Mr. Allen has provided consulting to various manufacturers and service providers in the firearms manufacturing and applications community.  The consulting consists of mechanical design, machine design, repair, reproduction, and restoration.  This includes both Class 3 and “Form 4” manufacturers, distributors, and armorers, as well as the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Department.

Additionally, Mr. Allen holds registration and certification for various manufacturers’ weapons lines, including all Glock pistols, Colt rifle (M16/AR-15), Colt handgun (1911-series), and SIG-Sauer pistol (P-series).  He is also an NRA certified Range Safety Officer and NRA certified Defensive Combat Instructor. 

Operating systems include bolt-action, pump/slide, lever-action, piston-operated, direct-gas impingement, blowback, recoil-operated, delayed roller-lock (retarded gas blowback), muzzle-loading, breech-loading, magazine-fed, belt-fed, inertia (mortar), and various cannon. 

Weapons groups include single-shot, semi-automatic, full-automatic, and selective fire (burst) rifles; single-action, double-action, and double-action-only pistols; single-action and double-action revolvers; general purpose machine guns, light machine guns, heavy machine guns; pump and auto-loading shotguns. 

Military weapons systems include CIWS, multi-barreled electric-powered gun, crew-served mortars, as well as standard military rifles, machine guns, pistols and shotguns, both foreign and domestic. 

Ammunition and munitions include standard metallic cartridges, black powder, pin-fire, paper-patch, grenade, cannon shells, high-angle (60mm, 81mm, 120mm), reloading, casting, and binary explosive compounds. 

Mr. Allen has had in excess of ten thousand hours of involvement in the firearms community and is a well-known and respected member of various organizations, both local and national.  Additionally, he is a member of the Arizona Rifle and Pistol Association, the NRA, and competes in 3-gun matches and high-power rifle competitions.
